Procedures for Persons Marrying in St. Maarten

I. DOCUMENTS & INFORMATION REQUIRED

  1. A full length, un-abridged*, Original birth certificate of both parties, proving the legality of same. These documents must be provided with an "Apostille Stamp".

    * The "unabridged" or "long version" Birth Certificate always has the same name or your parents listed on the birth certificate!  If not, it is considered a short version of the birth certificate, and not valid for the application!!!

  2. Apostille Stamps are obtained from ones birthplace state office.  If you are uncertain about the location of these offices, please call us and we shall forward the relevant address to you.

  3. Unmarried persons must present a declaration of marital status not older than 3 months and must be accompanied by an Apostille Stamp.  This can be obtain from a notary and is a sworn letter of attestation which states that you have never been married before.  This letter is stamped and signed by the notary (the notary most often will conduct a search, to verify that what you are saying is correct).

  4. Person wishing to be married must be 18 years or older

  5. Physical Address of both parties are required

  6. Duration of stay on the Island of St. Maarten

  7. Names of Parents as well as the Maiden name of mothers

  8. Date and Place of birth of both Parents

  9. Profession of Bride, Groom as well as of the Parents

ALL DOCUMENTS HAVE TO BE ORIGINALS AS THESE ARE KEPT IN THE ARCHIVES OF THE NETHERLANDS ANTILLES AND NOT RETURNED TO THE CLIENT

These documents should be in the possession of the wedding coordinator, no later than two months prior to the actual wedding date

Traveling in 2006! Make sure you get your passport. According to TSA, new regulations are followings:

After Dec31, 2005: Applies to all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean Bermuda, Central America and South America.

Dec 31, 2006: Applies to all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada

Dec 31, 2007: Applies to all air and land border crossing. If you are thinking to oversea trip including a cruise, we highly recommend that you obtain your passport now. Passport office will be overwhelmed by passport applicants.
